A Single Man.

This was the film in which Colin Firth was nominated for best actor and lost it to Jeff Bridges. Then in the repeat of that battle between them, Colin Firth won it for The King's Speech over Jeff Bridges in True Grit.

This film is really emotional. Anyone with depression or that has suffered a serious loss can relate to this film and the character. I wasn't sure about the end but it was a peaceful ending. When i saw it i felt a little let down by it but having had time to reflect on it I now like it a lot as it ends the film beautifully.

A Single Mind is a peculiar film to try and place. There were moments when i was almost scandalised by what was being implied but there were also moments when i thought that it was brilliant. There is a huge amount of potential in this film and i'm not sure that it really exploited all that was there in that 1 hour and 40 mins.

The only thing that upset was how red the lipstick was on some of the characters. It gave me a feel of doing amateur dramatics with rubbish lighting and being given really red makeup to make your lips visible. No matter the time period, when i see a film i expect the right kind of makeup and this film wasn't produced by amateurs so I don't know what the excuse is. Something petty to make up for not really being able to pick faults in this film.
