After yesterday's disappointment the resolution was made to watch a decent film that I could write a decent review on. My brother kept me company for this one and he got to select the film from the list of 100 odd films. So after going through the entire list he came up with Real Steel, starring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goya and a lot of robots.
probably the best film about robots made yet. I robot is the closest to reaching it, the care between the robot (Sammy) and the humans is fantastic but it isn't quite as powerful as the beautiful moment between Max and Adam when Adam is switched on and just mirrors everything that Max does. It is the moments like these that really turn the films from art in the making into something beautiful, into a masterpiece.from that moment on you knew that things were going to turn around, you could sense how the film was going to go and the film suddenly became a little more enjoyable.
Hugh Jackman was wonderful, as always. We know what to expect from Hugh Jackman in every film, we have seen him as Wolverine in many films and at times we have seen him take on other roles (the prestige, swordfish) and this was another less action based character that he took on.
Dakota Goya was irritating at first but then became a lot less like Jake Lloyd (as Anakin Skywalker) and more like a child who actually knew how to act. I haven't found a child actor that I have really liked since Abigail Breslin had to stop being a child. I am not going to say that I was completely won over by this performance and have found someone to fill the hole left by Abigail Breslin but there is potential. I know that the film was made five years ago and so the chance has probably gone but it is nice to know that every now and then there is hope and a talent to be found from the children of today's world.
overal I was very pleased with the film. Keep watching the space because tomorrows post will be on Bridge of Spies.
