Yes- this is a film of the first graphic novel by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neil so lovers of those graphic novels may enjoy that adaptation of this film. These graphic novels were rated 18 at least, if not completely X-rated so turning this film into a 12 is a work of art but may cause some hatred from die hard lovers of these novels.
Sean Connery takes the lead as Allan Quaterman, an interesting take with a heavy Scottish accent and the slightest Indiana Jones feel to it at the end. I can't praise individual performances because this film is a collective effort from the entire league and M. Jekyll/Hide was perfect but then so were most of the other characters. I am not a die hard fan so I found it much easier to appreciate this film probably a little more than others may have done. I really enjoyed this film, the scenery and the boat!
The boat was amazing, everything about the boat was fantastic. The design, the colours, it was perfect in every way. I want a boat like that. Even if the rest of the film had been absolutely rubbish (which it wasn't) the boat would have made everything better.
Dorian was good, a perfect cast for the typical Dorian Gray that we have all become familiar with because of that somewhat terrible Ben Barnes film made years ago that ruined his career and has made most people completely block that film out of their memories and of existent. After having read the book of Dorian Gray the casting seemed well suited- charming villain like he always was.
This film was Sean Connery's last film before his retirement and it was a good way for him to sign off. The film actually did really well at the box office. Aired mostly in the states, I don't remember it making its way to the UK but it was 13 years ago so I wouldn't remember it properly even if it had. No matter how well it did at first release there was not much enthusiasm for another film so die hard fans can be really happy about that.
