The sequel to this was hilarious and also amazing. The stage was set and expectations were high for this film, could it repeat the quality and comedy that was produced in the first film?
Yes.
This film was just as great in every way. I love the collection of well known actors that starred in this film and really made it special. This film has a sense of community, it is in every way on a par with the Quartet which is one of my favourite films to watch as there is never a wrong time to watch it. It doesn't try to be funny or over work things, it just allows everything to flow smoothly and allows the actors to play off of each other. Character development in this film is more so than in the other film but needed. They left this film really down to character development and they didn't shy away from it.
Maggie Smith deserves a special mention for her character, she has almost all of the best lines and is once again playing a completely different yet wonderful character. The ease in which she manages to pull of this difficult character is spell bounding. I was absorbed by her performance just ever so slightly more than i was by anyone else's.
Judi Dench was probably the second best character in the film as she was both stylish and yet what i would consider to be the perfect portrayal of an older woman that is no longer quite sure of herself and what to do. To me, she just summed up old age beautifully alongside Bill Nighy.
If you haven't seen these films then i would strongly recommend that you make a special effort to watch the and enjoy them.
