Trainwreck

Poster keeps popping up on my movie quiz's so it was added to the blog.

Stick with it, this is the most important message I can give you. The start of the film is a little interesting and you are a bit like 'what the hell is going on with this film, is this another film like American Beauty?' Or at least, you are if you are me. The answer is no but when she is going through the amount of people she has had sex with before kicking them out it does give off the wrong impression and any desire to turn off the film would be understood.

What is likeable about this film is that it's not cheesy or weirdly predictable. She's a journalist, she watches a film with her man, who is ridiculously well built, and then explains why she has sex with other men and he gets in to an argument with someone in the cinema who is actually trying to watch the Daniel Radcliffe dog walking film and then that seems to be the end of him. Off she goes on a hunt for a story and to interview a sports doctor who somehow slowly falls in love with her even though she drinks, appears to be racist and has way too many issues because she is afraid of commitment. It doesn't have that typical ending, it doesn't have the slow motion glancing scene where suddenly she realises that she is in love with him, it has a story that plays out very nicely. Stick with it and you will find that actually it is a good film.

Image result for trainwreckLeBron James stars as himself, playing basketball with the doctor as part of his rehab. Of course, being LeBron he is mostly just unplayable but the golden moment where he concedes a basket is priceless. I wouldn't go as far as saying that he has made a name for himself in movies, he was good, probably one of the best characters but being in this film is not going to launch your career because at times it was like watching Gilmore Girls. The long rants that she had in which Bill Hader fell asleep a lot just summed up the Gilmore Girls reference and made us all sympathetic to him.

Ezra Miller's character was good, full of surprises and something of a small side part in the supporting cast but his performance, as always, was good.

It's a passable film. It's not one that I would suggest that people watch if they haven't seen it but if you do decide to watch it then stick with it until the end. The use of Billy Joel's Upton Girl is terrific.
