Margin Call.

An independent film produced by many companies that have not one huge name between them. I support independent films, I admire the work that someone has to put in to make a film and this film, although dispersed world wide by bigger names in the film industry, is not a big film, was not the film that everyone was talking about (even though it was nominated for many awards) and has hardly been mentioned since 2011 when it was released on DVD; yet it manages to have a huge amount of stars in the very limited cast. Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects), Simon Baker (The Mentalist, The Devil Wears Prada), Paul Bettany (A Knights Tale, Iron Man, A Beautiful Mind), Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada, Gambit), Penn Badgely (Gossip Girl, John Tucker Must Die), Demi Moore (Ghost, A Few Good Men), Jeremy Irons (Die Hard with a vengeance, The Man in the Iron Mask, Batman Vs Superman)  and Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) are the cast included- so no one that the world has noticed yet, only some of the biggest names in world film.

Zachary Quinto for this film has been relieved of his 'Commander Spock' outfit from the new Star Trek franchise and he is making his own stamp on the movie industry by playing a bright young spark in a firm that is culling most of its employees. A nice chance for him to show what he can do and next to Penn Badgely he is not out of place. Much more convincing than Penn Badgely in the role because he has made the transition from hit role in a hit film franchise and well known character of a hit TV series to someone that can take on other roles, can show responsibility by changing roles, by not playing the same character and by not looking shy. He was everything that Penn wasn't. Not that anyone is disappointed, no one really expected him to instantly make the jump from Gossip Girl to the real world of film and if his performance in this film was anything to go by then he is still a few years away from being able to make the jump. There was too much 'Dan' in him when he tried and when he didn't try to be the character he tried so hard to repress Dan that he looked camera shy. However, just because some people can't make the transition from one character to another doesn't mean that they shouldn't be given credit for trying so at least he tried and maybe in a few years if he keeps trying he will succeed.

The rest of the stars? They've been practicing their trade for quite a while now, have been in major pictures, won awards and global success and really don't need to the same things to be said about them. They make the film- they carry the younger actors along with them and support them. They are the platform in the film to making a good film with a good all round cast. They are a pleasure to watch.
